Vertical Triple Punching Drill

I punch my way down the bag.

I immediately punch my way up the bag.

What is important is that I am practicing…

High Center Low Drill

Just like it sounds.

I punch high.

I punch center.

I punch low.

I repeat.

Simple to say.

Simple to do…once.

Not so simple one hundred times.

Challenging to do one thousand times.

High Centre Low Drill

This is another triple punch drill.

All I am doing is punching three times in a row.

In this case, I start high and work my way down.

My bag is braced so it stays in one place when I hit it.

Combination Triple Punch Drills

I combine the last two days back to back.

It is much more important to place these punches properly and with correct timing than it is to simply punch fast.

Oh…Punching through the target is also vitally important.

Centre Low High Drill

This is the opposite order of the punches I was doing yesterday.

Still, this is just another triple strike combination drill.

The point is to be able to punch to various targets without thought.

High Low Centre Drill

This is a combination punch drill.

It also happens to be a ‘High Low Centre Drill’.

I practice this triple strike until it is a reflex.

Then I practice to maintain that reflex…

Rising Front Knee

This is just a simple knee to the groin.

But a lot can happen.

I have to be at punching distance for it to work.

Too close or too far away and I will both miss and leave myself vulnerable.

I make a point of keeping my hands up while striking.

Also, if I am close enough to use this I am close enough to have it used on me.

And once I have struck I have to be ready to follow up in case my blow is not enough.

Slide in Foot Sweep

As simple as it looks.

The real challenge is applying it under pressure.

The timing and placement must be perfect or the sweeper will be at significant risk.

Slide in Side Kick

Done low this kick is a devastating fight stopper.

Done really low it is nothing more than a stomp.

But be advised, close enough to stomp is close enough to punch…

Slide in Roundhouse Kick

Applying a low kick is more challenging than it looks.
If I am close enough to kick the ankle of my attacker he is generally close enough to punch me.
On the other hand, an attacker than cannot stand is easy to get away from.

Being able to change heights while kicking gives me options regarding distance.
Kicking only at one range can be predicted by distance (among other things).

Slide in Offset Kick

This is very similar to yesterday’s drill.

The main idea is to be able to kick low (as well as high).

I build my strength by kicking slowly.

Slide in Front Kick

The drill I am demonstrating today is a strength building drill.

It builds up the strength necessary to execute a Front Kick effortlessly.

It is done low here because I practice it low.

I am good with low.

I accept that I can kick to this height.

Would I like to go higher; of course (and I do things that encourage that).

However, today, this is the height that I can kick at effortlessly.

The Stationary Jab then Follow up Punch

Today I am demonstrating the Stationary Jab followed punch.

This drill is used to practice the jab then another punch

Literally, this is how to set up the opponent by having him react to the jab first.

Tow man drills with this will have to wait for another time.

The Full Step Jab

Today I am demonstrating the Jab when done with a Full Shuffle from Froward Bow to Forward Bow.

I start at kicking range and simply shuffle in close before Jabbing the attacker.

The Full Step Jab allows me to either kick or punch my attacker.

The Half Step Jab

Today I am demonstrating the Jab when done with a short step.

I am just outside my reach to punch my attacker while still and a bit too close to kick.

The Half Step Jab allows me to move closer to my attacker.

At the same time, add weight to my punch.

As I stated; I am A BIG FAN of the Jab.

The Stationary Jab

Today I am demonstrating the Stationary Jab.

It is a most useful tool in any fighter’s arsenal.

It is quick, powerful and sudden and works well both in close and at hands reach.

Best of all, it is has the element of surprise.

I am A BIG FAN of the Jab.

Today; I show the Stationary version.

Withdrawing to a Cat with a Palm Heel Block then Follow-up Counters

This is used against a slide in front thrust kick to the stomach..

As he withdraws back in preparation for another attack; I step forward and kick to the groin.
